I am a strong believer that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Yes, there will be struggles. And no, it will NOT be easy. However, when we are determined to get an outcome that we want, then with time, that outcome will come to life. That is when you begin to live the life you desire.
I say all this because it very much so connects with being a working parent. Being a working mom is part of your identity and shapes the decisions and actions that you make. For this reason, we must look at ways to manifest the working mom life we desire, the way we want, so we can avoid that burnt out and stressed feeling. Check out this post if you are interested in learning about what work life balance means to working moms.
Manifesting the life you desire
This blog post will share one very powerful technique that I use to manifest the life of my dreams as a working mom. In manifesting this life, I am self-defining balance and creating joy amidst the chaos. My kids are young so the sleepless, coffee filled days seem endless. However, I know what I am working towards and that in itself keep me going and in harmony.
I know how hard it is to imagine the life of your dreams when you have so many things causing you stress. The laundry isn’t folded, the daycare isn’t working out during late work meetings, you are only getting 3 hours of sleep and so on and so forth. But remember those things are NOW and are NOT FOREVER. And remind yourself that these are things you GET to do rather than things you have to do or have to deal with. That is step #1. Afterwards, I want you to practice the technique of visualization (working mom edition).
The visualization technique
Visualization is a technique where you literally visualize and place yourself in the space of your ideal life, and in this case, as a working mom.
Step #1: Find a quiet space for yourself. This could be your bedroom when the kids are napping, in your car, or a walk in the neighborhood. Find a space that brings you peace and you don’t have to worry about anything or anyone.
Step #2: On a piece of paper or typed on your phone, write out a series of 5-10 questions that you will guide yourself through during your quiet time.
5 example questions to ask:
In your ideal life…
- What is your work schedule like?
- What does your morning routine look like?
- What house do you all live in?
- Walk me through a day in your life on a Monday from the time you wake up.
- Who picks up the kids at school?
Step #3: You can either record yourself or close your eyes to literally visualize the life you desire through the series of prompting questions. If you record yourself, you can play it back on your way to work or on your way back home from work. If not, run through this exercise at least once every month for a year.
It’s when you ask yourself these questions and answer truthfully, that you begin to see what it is that you really want.
Then, you can begin changing and/or adjusting what you are already doing so you can reach that point. The more you say it to yourself, the more you believe it’s possible. And, when you believe it’s possible, you do it! This is one of many self-care practices to get you to a place of balance. Read this post if you want more self-care tips.
