Busy Moms Self Care

Here 3 key ways busy moms can take care of themselves.
Being a working mom means that your days are long, and jam packed. Sometimes you feel like you are on autopilot: wake up, get organized for the day, go to work, put kids to bed and repeat. One area that often gets neglected is our self-care since we are often focused on making sure our kids, work, home and partner are okay first.

We have all heard it and KNOW that taking care of ourselves first will help us in the long run. However, we continue to run into the same issues when it comes to building some self-care habits. Here I list out 3 tips that are super easy to implement throughout your busy day or weekly schedule.
Remember: there are so many different ways to practice self-care and you need to figure out what will work for you. The self-care routines that I discuss below are three I do almost every single day. Once you start building a habit out of the routines – you will notice a difference.
#1: Listen to your favorite podcast on your way to work
If you commute to work like I do, this has been so game changing for me. People often ask me, how do I do it? How do I stay consistent and smiling despite everything I have to do, and with two little ones at home. And boy do I remember that first month after having my second child, I asked myself how I was going to do it too.
I have learned that if you don’t ground yourself in your WHY, if your mindset is not strong and you find yourself speaking negatively about your day/ life…then that energy will in fact manifest into your life. I say all this because listening to motivational and inspiring momprenuer podcasts really get me started for my day and week.
Right now I am super focused on building my online business so my podcast choices are connected to that.

#2: Move/ workout for at least 15 minutes before the kid(s) wake up
This one is not necessarily an EASY one for me, but it is one that makes my day so much better. It’s so doable but can be so scary to start and be consistent with. You will need to make sure you add it into your schedule. And you don’t have to do 30 minutes or an hour when first starting. You can simply begin with 15 minutes before the kids wake up or before you go to bed. Feel free to also take out your yoga mat and do some stretching and mindfulness exercises.
I find YouTube videos super useful in finding beginner workouts. You can start there and if you want to do more – there are plenty of online and in-person gyms and coaches that you can access.
Now, busy moms remember to be flexible with kids. I set my work out for 5 am but if I had a round night with my 4-month-old that 5 am turns to 6 am. Or maybe the kids are up early so you put a workout video in the background, sit them on their swing or with their favorite toy and then complete the workout. But don’t use your kids as an excuse to not do the workout. It really can happen. And if the mornings suck for you then go ahead, and do it in the afternoon. But I love the mornings since it’s such a great way to start the day.

#3: Facial care after you take a shower
I LOVE doing this. I know it can feel like you don’t have much time or maybe you are running late for work. But take even 5 minutes to wash your face, add your products, and just freshen yourself up. You can do this right before bed too. This way you are taking care of your skin and body. Show yourself love because we ALL know how much we can neglect us along the way.
I know my hair routine is not facial care but an added bonus for myself is taking care of my curls. It feels good to do this. But during those busy days and seasons, it could be hard to prioritize it.

I can’t reiterate enough how important it is for us working moms to take care of ourselves. As someone who struggles with this – I’ve made it a priority to take care of myself. I often feel a little lost as to who I am after having kids because of everyone else I am responsible for now. So, I refuse to let myself go now. Take the time to pamper and show yourself love.
